Barnburgh

Second trip to Barnburgh for the Sunday Open. I really didn't fancy a day in the rain, so following a quck glance through the curtains to the blue skies, I jumped out of bed and got the porridge on.
On arrival it was blowing a gale, but fine.
I drew peg 24 and decided straight away the pole would not see service today. There was no way I could manage that in the wind. So I set up a waggler rod and straight lead/feeder.
5 minutes before the in, the bacon and egg sarnie arrived .. Definitely worth two quid.

At the off, I pushed out the lead to the half way mark, and straight into one of them funny little carp. Must be one of them F1's. Second cast, I was into a little tench.
The plan had been to cast around the peg with the lead looking for signs of fish, and a pottential spot for dropping the feeder on.
I stuck to the straight lead, single maggot all day, never fed once, and caught slowly but steadily all match except last hour.
It pissed it down, for a while. Then it cleared a little. Then it went pitch black and we had hailstones. Did I mention the wind .. right in my face?

Strange thing about match fishing .. I really tried to be alert to who was catching .. and i thought I was doing reasonably well, but ended up being well beaten by several anglers. the winner was on the far bank (whop also fished straight lead, twenty odd pounds), and there were better weights on the bank to my left. .. though we had the worse conditions :)

I think my peg was worth more than the 7.15 pounds I caught .. but at least I feel better than last week .. although wet and cold.
